Want to know more? Citilink’s mission is Linking People to Life and with these new validators on our buses, we are making that mission possible by making our rides easier and more equitable for our community! These innovative validators are easy to use and are more efficient with less road calls for broken fare boxes and are easier to swap if something happens.
Here’s the best part: you can now pay for your ride with just a quick QR code scan on your smartphone. No more need to dig for cash or hunt for exact change! Fort Wayne is stepping up and joining cities across the country in modernizing public transit with contactless mobile payments.
On December 4, riders using the Token Transit app or looking to try out the app can try out the new validators first (click HERE to get started). Over the next few months, we’ll add more exciting features like:
- Tap-to-pay with your card or phone.
- Reloadable smart cards.
- New paper tickets with QR codes.

What Are Token Transit Mobile Validators?
Token Transit mobile validators are sleek, contactless devices installed on buses that let you pay with your phone instantly. All you need is the Token Transit app, which you can download from the App Store or Google Play on our website HERE. Once it’s installed, simply purchase your fare on the app, scan the QR code on your cell phone with the validator when you board, and you’re good to go!
With this technology, you can:
Skip the Cash: No need for paper tickets or coins—just your phone.
Get Discounts: As we update our fare prices, you can get discounts on your tickets by using the Token Transit app to pay for your tickets!
Pay As You Go: Can’t afford a full day or monthly pass right now? No worries! With Pay As You Go, you can earn that pass with each tap. You can purchase and activate passes as normal in the Token Transit app and Pay As You Go will apply automatically, when available. This provides an equitable solution for riders who cannot afford to purchase an all day or monthly pass upfront or may not know how often they ride.
Speed Up Boarding: Scanning to validate your ticket is quick, which means less time waiting and more time moving.
How to Use Token Transit on Citilink
Getting started is easy! Here’s how it works:
Download the Token Transit App: Available on both the App Store and Google Play.
Find Citilink: Once the app is downloaded, search for Citilink under Agencies.
Purchase Your Fare: Buy a single ride or even a monthly pass right on the app.
Scan to Validate: When you board, scan your phone on the validator. You’ll see a green or orange light and hear a beep—this means your fare is validated!
Enjoy the Ride: That’s it! No hassle, just tap and go.

Hello,
I am with Easterseals Arc and I was wondering if this is just an additional way to pay or if this will eventually replace the bus pass cards. Our participants don’t always have access to technology/cellphones, so I would like clarification so we can plan for the future. Thank you
Hi Amanda! These validators will eventually have a way to replace the bus pass cards. When we get to that point, we will be able to help you swap the current cards to the new version of paper tickets, which will have a QR code on them, for your participants. We are still making sure that everyone will be able to access and ride the bus, regardless of their access to technology. I hope this helps!
