FORT WAYNE, Ind. Oct. 9, 2024 — Citilink is pleased to announce free fares on all bus routes for Election Day and select Saturdays this holiday season. All free fare days include all regular routes and paratransit (Access) services.
Thanks to a sponsorship with AARP Indiana, Citilink will continue its tradition of giving back to the Greater Fort Wayne area by offering free bus fares on Election Day, Tuesday, Nov. 5. This initiative aims to promote civic participation by improving access to public transportation.
Emily Gorman, Associate State Director of Advocacy & Outreach at AARP Indiana, mentioned that this event is aimed at ensuring all citizens can vote without transportation barriers.
“Voting is a fundamental right that strengthens our democracy and enriches our communities,” said Gorman. “Our partnership with Citilink aims to make it easier for voters to fulfill their civic duty by providing free transportation to and from the polls.”
Additionally, Citilink is offering free fares on the following Saturdays this holiday season: Nov. 30, Dec. 7, Dec. 14, and Dec. 21.
Sponsored by Ambassador Enterprises and Downtown Fort Wayne, Free Fare Saturdays will offer the entire community free bus rides on select Saturdays. This initiative aims to boost local engagement and support local businesses through convenient access for holiday shopping.
“We are thrilled to be introducing sponsorships for our free fare Saturdays, to ensure fiscal responsibility during a deficit while also continuing to give back to our community,” said John Metzinger, general manager and CEO of Citilink. “In 2023, ridership increased by about 26% on those Saturdays, and we look forward to even greater participation this year.”
